No, we’re not talking about those creepy, crawling critters here. We’re talking about search engine spiders, also known as crawlers or robots. The job of these spiders is to search the internet, picking up content from websites. They’re like behind-the-scenes workers, analyzing every word, link, and code on your website. Once they’re done picking up this information, they return to the search engines and share the information they found so that it can be indexed.

To get your website into the top 10 search engine ranking, you’re going to need to please these spiders. They have very discerning tastes, so if they don’t like your website, they’ll probably chew you up and spit you right back out. You need to attract these spiders so that they are constantly exposed to your business, take in a lot of information that they can share with the search engines, and ultimately index you higher on top search engine sites.

The bottom line is, if you want to receive a top 10 search engine ranking, you need spiders to weave constant strands of webs around your site. They must return to it on a regular basis, so that you get maximum exposure. Another way to keep them happy is to update content and links on your site constantly. Dead links and outdated content are spider’s pet peeves.
